Health Care Reform: Supreme Court Police Are Ready

The Supreme Court continues to work out the future of health care reform, and they are expected to make a final ruling on its fate by the end of the month.  This debate is being called “the case of the century” by many and is stirring up a lot of emotion in Americans.  There have been many protests, some with violence, and the Supreme Court is prepared to handle any situations that may arise after the decision on President Obama’s health care law is announced.

Once the opinion is delivered to the public, Court Public Information Office Kathleen Arberg says the Supreme Court policy are ready to maintain strong security.  She goes on to say that the court has handled many high profile cases and they are fully equipped to handle this one.  The article by Debbie Siegelbaum on TheHill.com talks about some of the violent situations that have broken out in response to this heated debated on health care reform.  It truly is important that the Supreme Court understands the implications of their decision.  Sounds like they are prepared for crowds and protests which is a good thing.

The Supreme Court Police are ready to collaborate with Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Departments if it’s necessary.  Protesters do not require a permit as long as they stay on the sidewalk and off the street and court steps.  This does not mean that crowds will not get rowdy or overwhelming.  Hopefully things will stay under control as this monumental decision is reached.  People are so passionate on both sides and it can flare a lot of emotion out in public.
