BCBSNC Building Chronic Care FacilityBlue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) is opening a new clinic with UNC Health Care for up to 5000 of their customer’s with chronic conditions that need special attention. BCBSNC is the largest health insurer in the state according to the article “Blue Cross, UNC Build Chronic Care Unit” by Laura Oleniacz on HeraldSun.com and the new clinic is a welcomed addition to North Carolina. The clinic is named Carolina Advanced Health and it’s purpose is to offer services for Blue Cross adult patients with illnesses that are considered ongoing such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, depression and asthma. The goal is to cut overall health care costs with the addition of this specialized clinic. Their goal is to provide one-stop primary care services including mental health support, nutrition guidance, pharmacy advice, lab testing and case management. Their recent news release gives some more detail on the type of services being offered. Spokesperson for BCBSNC, Michelle Douglas, says the clinic will be viewed as a learning lab which will enable UNC Health Care to compare data from the clinic’s population and review success rates. Jennifer James, spokesperson for UNC Helath Care, says letters are being sent to Blue Cross customers to let them know about this new facility. Patients will only have to pay one primary care co-pay when visiting the clinic which should peak interest. Everyone involved is hoping for higher quality care, more organization, and more efficiency through the use of this unique chronic condition clinic.
